License to Carry Courses
At Cape Gun Works, we're proud to be the premier FFL dealer in eastern Massachusetts and beyond. We believe that in order to keep the practice safe and legal for generations to come, gun owners should know as much as possible about using their firearms safely. The first step to this is taking an LTC class in Massachusetts.
The state of Massachusetts requires residents and non-residents to complete a four-hour License to Carry (LTC) course before applying for their permit. But what does Mass LTC basic training include, and what's helpful to know before you come to CGW? We have answers for you.
About the LTC Training Course
Passing a License to Carry (LTC) course, also known as our Basic Firearms Safety Certification Course, is the first step toward applying for a firearm license and Firearms Identification Card in Massachusetts. It's a four-hour class that covers firearm safety, the basics of gun handling and marksmanship, basic maintenance, and a live-fire session. At Cape Gun Works, we offer LTC courses on our air-conditioned range in Hyannis, MA.
Principles of Firearm Safety
While it's important to attend in-person license-to-carry classes in Massachusetts, and while gun laws vary from state to state, there are four overarching principles that you should know before you ever handle a real firearm. These basic rules are the most important aspect of responsible firearm ownership.
First: Keep your finger someplace other than the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
Second: Keep your firearm pointed in a relatively safe direction whenever possible.
Third: Remember: You are in control of a deadly weapon. If you use it with malice or negligence, you could hurt or kill yourself or someone else.
Massachusetts Gun Law Compliance
The state of Massachusetts has some of the United States' strictest gun laws. These laws begin on our end as the FFL dealer: we ensure that every firearm we have in our warehouse complies with the regulations regarding gun size and type, as well as features. Our online storefront includes a filter for MA compliance to make it even simpler to find the perfect shotgun, handgun, or rifle for your needs. As a gun buyer in the state, you also have obligations under state law. One of the first steps is to take a certified LTC class in Massachusetts. You also have to ensure that any firearms that aren't in your immediate control are securely stored, ideally in a locked gun safe.
